neutralappliances “Choosing appliances feels like gambling”We need to replace our four-year-old Maytag washer (MVW6230HW1) which is the worst purchase we've made so far. We've replaced every appliance in our home over the last seven years. Everytime one needs replaced I research, compare, and I never feel confident in our purchase. There's no brand I can trust and for every good review there's a bad one. It feels like I need to buy with expectations of getting maybe five years out of it. I don't care about fancy settings, the plain dials would be great but those with larger capacity fall into the brands I want to avoid. I've been happy with front load or top load. Top load has given me more problems overall. Maytag is out as an option given the experience, and makes me hesitate on Whirlpool. Speed queen is out. My dad's 2010 Frigidaire front load set has never needed service and runs great to this day. Any thoughts on this brand? Seems like anything made since 2020 is junk regardless of brand. LG is a contender, though I read about so many people having issues here I'm hesitant. However, we have the ever dreaded LG fridge that's five years old and has never given us a problem, but we're at the five year mark so that'll probably change soon. Finally, where should we buy from? We've honestly just used big box stores because appliance stores around here all seem so sketchy. Is Costco a good option? Best Buy?

Affordable, effective, excellent service histories, swept the Consumer Reports testing. The door "rest" position (closed but not sealed) is enough for the machine freshness. The boost heater makes machine cleaning cycles substantially more effective. Even if you never use it for any other cycle, it's worth it for that alone. I would also consider GE and Electrolux models in that same price class, with boost heaters. The GE models with a fan for machine freshness are potentially something attractive for you if the door needs to be closed-closed at all times.

neutralappliances “Best washer and dryer on the market for cheap-ish??”LG’s mid tier stuff is works very well without going insane on price. Samsung is another reliable option. Both have great spin speed and smart features without being overcomplicated. Front load vs top load really depends on your space and habits. Front load saves a bit on water and is gentler but can get smelly if you leave the door closed. Top load is faster to load/unload though a bit rougher on clothes. One little hack install a little [shelving unit](https://ScopeHive.github.io/ventryx/?q=2DB51B1434) above. It makes folding and sorting so much less painful.

Here is what I want: \- Top Loading \- Impeller preferred but willing to do Agitator \- water covers the clothes \- reliable brand \- extra rinse option **EDIT:** I currently have a front loader that was not cared for before I bought my home. The rubber gasket is so moldy and I can't stand the thought of washing my clothes in it anymore. \*yes, I've checked Consumer Reports, but I'm a little suspicious that LG is like their favorite thing ever. Makes me think they are paid off.\* **UPDATE:** After sleeping on it and literally dreaming about washing machines, I decided to go front loader, even though my current one is so gross. I am going to purchase the LG front loader model #wm4000hwa. Things I took into account: \- gentleness on clothes while getting them sufficiently clean (people seem to like the turbo wash cycle) \- it's energy star certified which is important to my husband \- more efficient in terms of water usage \- I'm still nervous about maintaining the gasket since I've been burned with my current washer, but this LG model has a magnet that will keep the door ajar even after you've aired it out, which I like since my washing machine is in an active pathway. It also has a drain filter at the front which I can empty. I guess I'm just going to be the best front-loader-owner in terms of keeping it clean.
