homenetworking “Trying to solve technical problems with a narcissistic parent is impossible”

we have 5Gb internet but our router (asus gt ax11000) is only capable of about 2. 5Gb. So, thats basically the bottleneck. I have told him this probably a dozen times with specs, documentation, and basic networking limits. No matter what kind of configuration you do, you wont be able to get more throughput than what the hardware can handle. My dad (he worked for IBM a long time ago) simply refuses to hear this. He keeps saying that since hes a tech guru, he should be able to go the extra mile in terms of throughput just by his know, how. When I tell him that it is physically and technically impossible, he calls it me not understanding the science. He is now trying to make it into a game. First, he comes up with an idea where he wants to do a DIY experiment hes going to lay an Ethernet cable, then hes going to wrap it in foil and finally hes going to shine a light at one end of the cable calls it "Degrading the wire" he says its science, and it will be proof that he can increase performance. I was at a loss for words at that moment. What makes this even more difficult is that I really dont want to become like him. I hear him out, I try to see things from his perspective, and Im willing to admit if Im wrong. But sometimes there really isnt another way the hardware acts the way it does. This has nothing to do with networking anymore. or If its all about ego im unsure.

So our kid keeps crying playing Roblox and I blocked it on the router and that was fine until he discovered Fkey. Its not like a normal VPN because I keep blocking all the ports and disable all pass through and still works. My router is an Asus RT-AX52

asusrog “From Phanteks NV9 to ASUS ROG Cronox - Was It Worth It”

Hi guys ! Here is some important information that might help the next ROG Cronox owner. After spending time building in the **ROG Cronox**, I can honestly say this case is something special. Having a full ASUS ROG ecosystem inside an ASUS ROG case gives the whole build a completely different feeling. It just feels… complete. That said, there are **quite a few things you should know before buying it.** The biggest disappointment was the **ROG Ryuo IV SLC 360** compatibility. The top radiator bracket is **NOT** fully compatible with ASUS’s own flagship AIO. So much space for a radiator and the mounting holes don’t line up correctly. I had to find longer screws just to make it work. I eventually got it installed, but it’s honestly disappointing that the latest flagship ROG AIO doesn’t properly fit the latest flagship ROG case. That’s something ASUS should definitely address. The case also has room for **four 120mm fans at the top** (one is out of radiator for aesthetic look), but hiding the AIO tubes is much harder than I expected because there isn’t much space. I managed to make it look clean, but it definitely wasn’t an easy installation. That said, the **build quality is outstanding.** The materials, finish, and overall premium feel are exactly what you’d expect from a flagship ROG product. Do I like it more than my previous **Phanteks NV9 MKII**? **Yes and NO.** I really prefer the fan layout and the overall design of the Cronox. However, it also feels like the Cronox is already pushing the limits of its internal space, while the NV9 MKII still feels like it has room to grow. Hopefully this information helps the next ROG Cronox owner avoid some surprises during their build. Also…also my glass got a bubble inside 😐

homenetworking “ISP router won't let me use my own router. What are my options?”

I have fiber internet from my ISP and they provided a combo ONT router unit. There is no bridge mode option in the settings and the ISP says they do not support using my own router. I have a nice Asus router that I want to use for better wifi coverage and features like VPN and QoS. I tried putting my Asus router in AP mode but then I lose those features. If I put the ISP router in DMZ and point it to my Asus router, will that avoid double NAT? I also read about MAC address cloning but I am not sure if that works with fiber. The ISP router is required because it has the fiber input. I cannot remove it completely. Has anyone successfully used their own router behind an ISP locked fiber gateway without double NAT issues? I am in the US if that matters. Thanks for any help.

asusrog “Why does Asus customer service deny claims for this type of damage to my AMD 9950x3D? #AsusHeroBTF (its dead)”

the Asus customer service inspected the board, made a full Damage Report, found nothing, send it back to me and told me case closed. CPU stay dead. Confirmed on 2 other boards from Thermal Grizzly. My 700€ CPU is dead and how could anything other than the motherboard produce such burn marks? a Cooler is on top with strongest possible custom watercooling loop on the market (600x600mm Radiator). Burn marks are on the other side of the CPU. Code 00 on POST Code LED is first indicator for CPU death. CPU has no more warranty, so no AMD support possible. I did no OC, Bios settings are Stock! Now I send it to the shop on amazon again, to inspect it. This board is just 4 months old! I wish we could have solved the problem some other way, so I wouldn't have to post something this stupid now \--------------- *edit, 24th Jun, 7am CEST:* ***Thanks at this point for Asus USA to contact me after this post to rewatch this case.*** *When I have done something wrong with my build here, to get this type of issues, I am sorry for it. I will edit it later again, so no (Asus or AMD) customer ever needs to get this type of errors ever again!* *I think I have a lot of PC Knowledge, I am extremely careful when building my pc. I at least double and triple check everything and I can't explain this to myself. I know there are like 1000 possible components in this very special build, but the CPU bottom was just connected to the board. So I just can imagine where the final issue was. I asked a lot of experts for this in the last weeks because I never had this type of error in the last 15-20 Years ever. And because of known similar cases on reddit, this RMA case was closed too fast for my feelings.* *Its about how the situation was handled, when I had this error and other issues with the board and I feel like the dark spots in repair analysis wasn't in focus as I thought it should be. But I dont know more about it.*
