The final choice was the Leap by Steelcase from Crandall Remanufactured Chairs. The total experience was great. Thanks to this community, I can sit at my desk for longer than an hour without any coccyx pain!

neutralofficechairs “5 years with a Steelcase Gesture and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat”So I've seen a lot of "is the Gesture worth it" posts here, and after 5 years of abuse I figured I'd throw in my two cents. I [bought mine brand new](https://www.reddit.com/r/OfficeChairs/comments/ngn3d1/the_wait_is_over/) in 2021 for $1200. At the time that felt like an insane amount of money to spend on a chair; but paying for quality only hurts once. The most expensive seat I've ever paid for wasn't a chair at all, it was the wheelchair I needed when my arthritis got bad. That whole experience rewired my brain about this stuff. When you've felt what it's like for your joints to give out on you, dropping a grand on something that's going to cradle your spine for 14 hours a day stops feeling like a splurge and starts feeling like maintenance. I work remotely and I am genuinely in this chair 12 to 16 hours a day, so I needed it to earn its keep. It has. A few real talk observations now that the honeymoon is long over: * The lumbar support and I broke up after one week. Too stiff, kept jabbing me in the back like it had a personal grudge. I popped it off and never missed it. * The headrest is lovely but it's a luxury, not a necessity. If your budget is tight, skip it and pocket the few hundred bucks. * One upgrade I'd actually recommend: I swapped the stock casters for the medical-grade, heavy-duty wheels. The difference in how smoothly the chair rolls is night and day. * Now the part that actually impressed me. The vinyl cover under the seat started tearing up, almost certainly because I live somewhere hot, humid, and sunny and the chair sits in it all day. I emailed Steelcase half expecting the usual runaround. Instead they just shipped me a replacement part. No interrogation, no "can you provide 14 photos and your firstborn," nothing. Just fixed it. * Other than that vinyl tear, the chair looks almost new. The frame is still shiny, the fabric hasn't pilled or faded, and I'm not exactly gentle with it. I do wipe it down and sanitize it regularly and it's the only "maintenance" that I do. Bottom line: 5 years in, zero regrets. The Gesture is built like it wants to outlive me, and Steelcase's customer service is honestly second to none. If you're on the fence, this is your sign. Buy the chair, skip the lumbar if it bugs you, and treat yourself well.

neutralofficechairs “Just buy the expensive chair and stop worrying about it, from someone that didn’t listen.”This post is just for everyone out there that needs to hear what most of the mods and others on this sub are probably thinking when someone asks what kind of chair to get. I(32M) wfh and sit in a chair 8 hours a day at minimum. I’m 6’4” and about 260lbs, so when I started my search I only looked for heavy duty chairs. I scrolled through chair review after chair review on here for months to see what I could get without opening the wallet. Come to find out I should’ve just listened in the first place. Started with an amaz*n knockoff “ergo chair” for $50, used for a month and couldn’t take the back pain. Upgraded to a nicer “executive chair” for $150 from staples, just as bad and did not feel nearly as comfy even with all the positive reviews. Started getting sciatic nerve pain a couple weeks ago and finally pulled the trigger on a secondhand Herman Miller Aeron size C from FB marketplace for $400. In one hour of sitting in it after proper adjustments on the chair and it was like a breath of fresh air for my back. Just make the investment and don’t cycle through unnecessary chairs like I did. FWIW I only sat in an aeron, a steelcase leap V2, and a 9to5 Tori from my company’s office. But the aeron was by far the best of those for my back. EDIT: apparently everyone thought I meant just go blow $1k on a chair because you have to have the money and resources available to you and if not screw you. I’m saying that as larger person who is a wfh employee and has lower back issues, your standard/cheap “ergonomic” or “extra comfort” chairs that you read good reviews on, probably won’t work for you unless you test them out. If a $20 hand me down office chair doesn’t send lightning bolts down your back, I’m happy for you. If you search this subreddit over and over again because you’re afraid of spending over $400 on a well known brand and product like I did because nothing else works, it may be in your best interest to just take the leap and do it. My goal was to stop the overly analytical and OCD perfectionists like myself that probably research this subreddit over and over hoping to find a solution to just go for it and don’t waste time on the knockoffs if it’s feasible for you. Also for anyone saying they don’t have the golden opportunity like I did to test them out, my area has office furniture liquidators all over that you can walk in and test chairs. Maybe try searching around your area for one.

All the bits still work. Fabrics have held up very well. It’s super-adjustable so I’ve got it set up exactly how I want it. A good chair is an investment in your body. Sure, it cost $1500 at the time, but that’s less than $100 a year and my back thanks me for it.

Hi, I am writing this post because I am in urgent need of a new office chair. My current is the Steelcase Series 1 one and it's been my one and only for like 5 years now. The cushion is flat now and it squeaks and sinks whenever I lean back. I don't want another cheap office chair, more like a real ergonomic mesh with solid lumbar and adjustable arms. My budget is $1,500 so I can afford each one. I thought to be loyal to Steelcase and get that Leap, however I might be missing out on something better. I honestly can't wait anymore as the summer is almost here, so I'll be working from home more and I want solid support for long days. Basically ready to pull the trigger so please help me make the final decision!
