I'm sharing an overview of my desk, where I spend most of my days working (I'm a freelance graphic designer) and gaming when I have a moment. The big recent change is my new chair. I ditched my old IKEA chair, which was uncomfortable during long days, for a much more complete model from Autonomous: adjustments in all directions, better support, and a mesh seat that breathes much better than what I had before. With my back problems, it really makes a difference—I end my days feeling much less tense. I had my doubts about the mesh at first, but after several days, it's been a pleasant surprise. If anyone has any advice on maintenance or feedback on the durability of the seat, I'm all ears (my previous chair quickly accumulated stains that were impossible to remove). The armrests are also more useful than I expected: I don't use them much for work, but for playing on the console, in a more relaxed position, they're really comfortable. For the rest: Mac Mini M4, LG 32UD89-W monitor, XP-Pen tablet, iPad Air, MX Keys/MX Master, Switch OLED, Xbox Series X, Analogue Pocket, Bose + Sony WH-1000XM3. A simple and clean setup, designed for work... and extending the day with a little gaming session. Please feel free to suggest changes to improve my setup. I’m 6'5", 255 lbs, and sit for loooong drawing sessions. Had a minor back injury from a workout accident. Flares up occasionally. After years of bad chairs adding to that pain and flaring up my sciatica after work, I switched to something more ergonomic from Autonomous. Its got proper seat depth for long legs (no more digging into the back of my thighs). Arm support that finally lines up with my desk so my elbows aren’t floating. All of that makes long workdays noticeably easier on my body. The lumbar support is the real MVP. There is gonna be a setup curve to getting it just right but it's sigh of relief-inducing once it's set. I spent a day or two dialing it in but once set, posture feels natural and I’m no longer ending days sore even after pulling an all nighter. Easy to assemble but obviously I had some help 🤣 Too early for long-term verdicts, but so far my back is happier and my setup still looks good...hopefully 🤣 PS: Saw a post earlier today about work AND play chairs, and this can definitely kickback.

I just picked up and finished assembling the Staples Hyken Pro. It's on a pretty crazy sale on the Staples site atm, I won't link it as I'm not sure what the rules around that are, but I'm sure you could find it easily enough. Anyways, this chair must have just been released a few weeks ago, can't even find a review on Youtube. All the staples website reviews seem to be customers that were given the product for free, so I don't trust any of them. I was using the Autonomous ErgoChair 2 (not even the "pro" which seems to be the exact same chair I had.) for almost 6 years, and honestly it held up great, not much negative to say about it, it's just naturally wobbly and a bit stiff/uncomfortable. To me this is far more comfortable and offers better lumbar support than just a cushion you can move up and down poking through the back mesh. Has some very nice assembly instructions and hardware, the hardware actually has a card within each pouch that has the exact step it's needed for printed on it which is about as "user friendly" as bolts and an Alan key could realistically be. The seat is very comfortable, but I wouldn't say it's going to be comfortable "all day". It's medium firm, but does have a lot of cushion to it and doesn't feel like I'm sitting on plastic like the ErgoChair did. Lumbar support can be adjusted with twist knobs behind the support mesh of the backrest itself, 3 notches that basically tilt it further out/up. The headrest has height and angle adjustments, at 6'1'' I have to deliberately lean back to feel it properly but when reclining slightly it works well. Back rest is perfectly fine and has plenty of tension without needing to be adjusted (thankfully, because there's no tension adjustment like the ergochair and I'm sure much nicer chairs have.) **EDIT: Oh hey, I lied, there's another knob underneath the right side with 4 notched adjustment selections that change the recliner tension when leaning back. By default it's on the highest, but obviously you can adjust to your liking.** Arms are a rounded plastic with I'd say 5-10% give if you \*really\* push into them, but for the most part they're a hard plastic, albeit smooth all around with no sharp edges. They can be tilt adjusted left and right, height adjusted and length adjusted forward and back. They're perfectly serviceable, but kind of a wide stance, certainly too wide for typing most times. Recliner has 3 lockable angles, or you can leave the adjustment lever all the way down to unlock it at all times, and the height adjustment of the seat works exactly like you'd expect. No seat tilt or forward/back adjustments here, but it's not a problem for me, everything seems to be set up just fine for someone of my height. Either way, just hoping to clear up any questions people have about this chair because I could barely find anything on it before buying mine. I'd definitely recommend adding your roller blade/quad bearing wheel of choice as the stock wheels are as cheap and flimsy as they come. tl;dr it's a solid chair at the price I paid (215.99 plus shipping) and it retails for 429.99 normally. I'm not complaining one bit.

Just finished my first full work week with the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro and figured I'd share my experience. I'm a Digital Product Designer and decided to upgrade mainly for aesthetic reasons and because my previous chair lacked a proper headrest for those relaxed moments. My old chair was actually quite decent, but I wanted something that looked cleaner in my plant filled workspace and had better support for leaning back. The ErgoChair Pro delivers on both fronts. The mesh design fits perfectly with my jungle office aesthetic, and that headrest is great for those moments when I lean back to think through design problems. The lumbar support is solid and the overall comfort during long Figma sessions has been good. Here's where it gets interesting though. The armrests work differently depending on what you're doing. For relaxing or the occasional gaming session with a controller, they're actually quite comfortable. But during intensive keyboard and mouse work, they force my arms wider than feels natural. The wide positioning and concave shape push my elbows outward, which creates some tension during those long design sprints. It's not a dealbreaker, but definitely something to consider if you spend most of your day typing and using a mouse intensively. For gaming and relaxing, the armrests are actually pretty nice. For context, I'm 178cm and weigh just under 75kg, so not exactly a broad shouldered guy. What I really appreciate during extended work hours is how the seat cushioning stays comfortable. No "hard butt" feeling even after 8+ hour days, and the back support keeps me in proper posture so I don't end up with back pain by evening. The ability to lean back occasionally with that headrest support is perfect for those thinking moments, plus I get to admire my plant collection while contemplating design solutions. Overall, I'm happy with the upgrade. Got the aesthetic improvement and headrest I wanted, just with a trade off in armrest positioning during intensive work periods. At least my plants seem to approve of the new addition to their jungle domain!

If you want a chair maybe almost as good as the Herman Miller for a fraction of the price, take a look at the Autonomous ErgoChair Mesh. It will run you about $400 but it’s a fantastic chair. Only thing I’d suggest with that (or any chair for that matter) is getting some aftermarket wheels that roll better than stock. I personally like Stealtho wheels, but there’s plenty of others to choose from. Mesh chairs like the HM Embody or Aeron just breathe better and help prevent you from getting swamp ass when you have long gaming sessions.
