Works Ergonomic Executive Chair

I finally broke down and replaced my 10-15 year old Serta Hensley with a ProtoArc EC200. I received the chair from ProtoArc to provide feedback, but after lurking on this sub for a long time I also wanted to share my honest thoughts after a couple months with the EC200. For context, I’m 6’0”, 240 lbs, and I work from home full-time. On most days I’m sitting 8–14 hours so my chair gets a lot of use. First off, I was surprised how small the box was for an office chair. The assembly was simple and everything went together without any issues. Attaching the headrest was probably the most time consuming part, and that was just because I didn't read the instructions correctly. Once it was built the chair felt solid without any additional adjustments.  The biggest difference from the Serta is the firmer, more supportive feel. The Serta was cushioned like a recliner, while the EC200 is definitely more about posture and ergonomics. The lumbar support is noticeable, and the mesh back helps with airflow, which I've been appreciating during long workdays. The chair fits me very well for my size. I don’t feel cramped, and the available adjustments work well for me. I can tell the difference the extra support has made compared to the Serta. My back doesn't hurt after the extra long days like it had in the past. Two features I’ve really liked are the seat depth adjustment and the adjustable headrest. I didn’t expect to see those features at this price point, and it actually makes a big difference getting the chair dialed in.  I haven't noticed degradation of any of the parts. The height stays where I have it set, the arms are very stable, and there aren't any squeaks or other noises when moving around.  That said, I do have some nitpicks. The wide armrest pads are comfortable, but only having the height adjustment leads to me having to adjust them more frequently than I'd like based on my seating position. Although I wasn't expecting it at this price point, some type of inward/outward adjustments would have eliminated this need. I heard that they may offer upgraded armrests in the future, so I'll definitely be watching for them. The seat is also on the firmer side. It’s supportive, but if you’re coming from a thick padded chair like I was it takes some getting used to. On long days (12+ hours) I find myself shifting around a bit more than I did in my old chair.   Overall I think the EC200 is an excellent value chair. It has more ergonomic features than any other chairs I've seen around this price. With minor adjustments it’s been very comfortable for my long workdays. The Serta was a staple in my office for so long that it will definitely be missed, but I've been really happy that I made the switch.

I have worked from home since the beginning of COVID. Since then, I buy a new Serta office chair from Sam's every 2 years. When it's new, the chair is very comfortable. The seat cushions are great and so are the armrest and back support. After those 2-ish years, my back starts getting severe pain when I sit for more than 2 hours. My wife has the Branch Ergonomic Chair Pro and loves it. I have tried it for a few hours and while my back pain was resolved, I didn't find the butt cushions very comfortable. The arm rest were also too stiff. I have seen some YouTube reviews of the Steelcase Series 1 and it seems like I might have the same issues as the Branch. It also looks like I might be too tall for it. I'm 5'11" and 250 lbs. I would like to find a chair that's comfortable and not stiff. Also, one that would last more than 2 years. Preferably, I would like to spend only $500-$600. Maybe that's wishful thinking but let me know if you have any suggestions!

It definitely contributed to my back pain, my theory is ergo is great for office work where you’re still, but as you say, it doesn’t seem like if you’re moving around you get the proper support. I pc game and play solo board games often. I decided to go with “executive” style office chairs. My first priority was enough cushion for my bony butt. I was able to try out different chairs at a big box store in the U.S. called Office Depot, and picked the Serta Mosby (Serta makes mattresses which is hilarious that was the level of cushion i needed) After a couple of days, my bottom was great but my lumbar was the only part of my back not getting support, leading to pain. This was because I am taller so the natural lumbar was lower than ideal. I solved that by getting a memory foam samsonite lumbar cushion which trumps any lumbar feature or add on I’ve experienced on an ergo chair. The leaning feature is weak, but comfort wise man, I’d recommend this any day over an ergo chair.

I have a Serta office chair... comfortable with lumbar support. However, I am short and my feet barely touch the ground. I hate using a foot stool. So I usually end up sitting cross-legged, and my lower back is paying for it. I tried a kneeling chair once in store, and immediately I felt less pain in my lower back. However, not sure how these would be for very long hours. I've also seen good reviews on chairs such as Hag Capisco for lower back issues. TL;DR - what are you recommendations for office chairs for short people with lower back pain? Preferably under $400 USD, but I'm flexible if it's an 11/10 chair.

I have had this chair for nearly 15 years, and it is one of the best purchases i've ever made. I work from home and use it for gaming in an evening so, I use it at least 4 or 12-16 hours a day. 40,000 hours seems like a reasonable guess, and maybe i paid £400 - so 1 penny per hour ive sat in this chair. One of the best purchases ive ever made. I'm now scared that it needs replacing as the faux 'leather' covering is splitting and the padding is starting to degrade. I am in desperate need of some advise to help with finding a new replacement. This thing is literally moulded to by body shape it has been so comfy. I love the memory foam arm rest and the seat padding, and how relaxed and reclined it goes. I know this might not be the norm in this reddit, but I want another 'armchair' office chair. Non of this mesh nonsense, I want padding and luxury. I love the fixed arm rests, particularly the memory foam padding, I find the normal armrests that come up on a single stem to always be too wappy and not comfy. These are often called manager or executive chairs in the description.   Things I am considering so far; 1) Maybe a direct replacement - is the "Serta Works Executive Office Chair, Faux Leather and Mesh, Black" the exact replacement for my old chair? Is it still the same quality? Where can I get the same again in the UK? 2) I am influenced by the advertisements from Secret lab. I like the idea of the ottoman or 'Ergonomic Recliner Add-On' - are these up to 'armchair' office chair standards? 3) I love the idea of a Stressless office chair. Super comfy and luxurious, but I find the arms to be too low down. I've only sat in them in a showroom, but they don't seem like a good height for using a mouse and keyboard. I can easily change my office desk pull out keyboard/mouse tray height, if that would solve it - but i feel that the arms aren't meant for leaning on while using a mouse or keyboard. Please help me in my most important decision of 2025!
