UltraFine 27UP850K Monitor

Hi, I just bought a LG Ultrafine 32" 4K IPS monitor, and I noticed that there is a sort of dead pixel on the top right of the screen, a black spot about the size of one pixel. However, I am not sure it is a dead pixel, since its position moves relative to the other pixels around. As you can see in the photos, depending on the angle of observation the black spot moves. When I look closely, it looks like the black spot is located 2-3 milimeters under the screen, if that is possible ? I tried to massage the screen, turn it off and on, but it did not succeed. I am wondering, is it worth it to return it ? I can do that during 15 days. Is it worth the hassle ? Are those defects common ? What would you do in my place ? The spot is quite faint, but easily noticed on a white background, so it is a bit frustrating to have when you buy a new screen full price.

Hi everyone, I’m having a pretty strange issue with my LG Ultrafine 4K 27-inch monitor (model LG 27UP84NP) when connected to my PS5 via HDMI. After about an hour of use, the monitor seems to crash. I can still keep playing on the PS5, but once I turn the console off, the monitor’s backlight stays on and everything becomes completely unresponsive. I can’t switch input sources using the button underneath, and the whole monitor is basically frozen. The only thing I can do at that point is unplug it from the power. After restarting it, the screen starts flickering heavily (see video). After a few hours, it goes back to normal and works fine with my PCs. However, as soon as I use it again with the PS5, the problem comes back. Has anyone experienced something like this? Any idea how to fix it? Hey, just read your article and I'm glad to discover your site. Lots of cool stuff. Got me since minute 0 on the Daft Punk's vocal effects, will come back for more! Now that we're almost three years after the article's publishing date, mind me asking how do you see the new array of 4k 27" displays? I still haven't bought one but I'm leaning towards the regular abovementioned 4k 27". After quite some research Im concluding the LG Ultrafine series is a good option for general pro graphic design. Discarded BenQ mainly for low customer support rating and panel lottery, Dell doesn't declare DCI P3 and the Asus ProArt are nice but only past beyond the 600-700€, which I can't afford atm. Hello! Reaching out to Reddit because I can't seem to find a clear answer to my question. I'm looking to buy a vertical monitor but I'm honestly not sure which one to go for. Any advice would be appreciated! * My main monitor is a LG 39-inch UltraGear evo GX9, 39" 5K2K OLED (39GX950B-B). * I have limited space on the left side of my main screen, around 45 cm wide & 65 cm deep, so a 27" seems like the best fit. * This vertical screen would mainly be for YouTube videos, Discord & guides / web pages. Basically a companion screen next to my main one while I'm gaming. * I'd like something that stays visually consistent with my main monitor so the difference isn't too jarring. Obviously I'm not expecting the same quality as the 39GX950B-B, but I'd like the gap to not be too obvious either. * I have a AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D 8-Core Processor (4.70 GHz), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 & 64Go. * No strict budget, but for this kind of use, around $800 CAD feels reasonable to me. From what I've researched so far (please correct me if I'm wrong): — An OLED isn't recommended for vertical use given what I want to do, especially because of text quality issues. — The Dell U2725QE was recommended as the best option for my use case, but the Reddit feedback seems mixed from what I've read, even though professional reviews are pretty positive. — The ASUS ProArt PA279CRV was also suggested by AI, but I'm not sure what to think of it. Same goes for the Dell S2725QS, which apparently has the best value for money. Lastly, the LG UltraFine 27UP850K-W came up too, but I haven't dug too deep into that one. What would you recommend? Is it really a good idea to avoid OLED for a vertical screen with this kind of use? Or do you think a specific monitor would pair perfectly with my setup? Any recommendations would be hugely appreciated.

I’m in similar situation but just not for photo editing. I do front end coding so perfect color accuracy is slightly less important for me. I’m starting to lean towards the LG as it is cheaper, brighter, can get full resolution without compressing through Thunderbolt 5. Feels more future proof thanks to the TB5 and Displayport 2.1. In your case the LG could be good if you do professional color calibration to it after the purchase. On top of better color calibration out of the box, the Dell has much superior support. Where I live, if there are any problems, they ship a new display even before returning the old one in few days. Another interesting option will come from LG in May. The OLED 39” (5120x2160). That will have perfect blacks and colors will look amazing. Not sure about the connection though and if there is OLED burn-in risk. But yeah, I think I will go with LG UltraFine 40U990A-W. Would love to hear more opinions on this topic. Ps. Some report the LG has fan noise but should be fixed in an update.
