neutralallergies “Changed my life after addressing dust mite allergy”I grew up in humid Florida with sneezing and sinus congestion issues most of my life. This affected my sleep and ability to do almost anything. Recently asked for an allergy panel on my bloodwork at the doctor's office and was diagnosed with a severe dust mite allergy. Months down the line, I have finally been able to address it and regained my life back. Wanted to share in case there is someone else out there in a similar situation! 1. Dust mites thrive in >50% RH (relative humidity). I spent some time living in Denver, CO with almost 0 symptoms due to the year-round dryness. But for humid climates, you can buy a large dehumidifier ($100+). Just look for 15+ pints/day of moisture removal. Small desktop ones will not outpace air leakage. Use a cheap meter to measure for yourself. Target <40% RH if you can! But note: dehumidification will address live dust mite populations over weeks. It will NOT remove existing allergen particles that are already present! So step 2 is even more important! 2. Buy a HEPA mattress vacuum cleaner and run multiple times over ALL cushions/bedding in your household: pillows, mattresses, couches, linens etc. I got the FEPPO one for $80 on Amazon and was shocked by how much dust came out of things! Where possible, a hot wash and dry help too, of course! 3. Buy dust-mite-proof whole mattress and pillow encasements. I got the Hospitology ones for \~$40 (each) on Amazon. If you have an old couch, consider getting rid of it entirely. It is unfortunately very difficult to encase properly or vacuum out all the allergen particles embedded deep beneath the surface. 4. Change out your A/C filters every month! Use MERV 8 or 11 filters (any higher may strain your A/C unit). I get mine in bulk from filterbuy(dot)com. You can additionally get an air purifier with HEPA filters and run it 24/7. Levoit makes some great ones (<$50 on Amazon)! 5. After exposure, allergen particles can stick to your clothes and continue triggering symptoms the whole day, even after leaving the original source! Now if I notice my allergies flaring up, I try to shower and put on a clean set of clothes as soon as possible! 6. Humidity is always high in bathrooms. Replace thick fluffy carpets with a flat mat if you can! Hope this helps at least one person out there regain their life back! Upfront costs were hefty, but the investment was well worth it for me. I don't use any antihistamine medications or allergy shots AT all (so no side effects!)

I’ve been looking at Air Doctor and Levoit. I haven’t seen much at all on Air Doctor and they have prices running from $500 and up. Levoit has cheaper prices with more reviews. If they get the same job done with the same performance I might as well stick with the cheaper one. Does anyone currently use any other air filters that they are happy with and would recommend to someone else in a heart beat?

It is a little noisy, but I don’t know if there are quieter ones. We have pets so it does fill up rather quickly with dust etc. I’m the only one with a pollen allergy which is mainly an outside issue so I can’t say if it makes a difference or not in that sense
