For the last 2.5 years, I’ve been developing a live-action survival thriller completely solo. To capture the raw reality of the project, I spent exactly 40 days shooting alone in the wilderness. With no camera crew, my DJI gear literally had to become my cinematographer. I hauled my setup across 4 different Turkish cities. I spent the longest and most grueling stretch in the massive block forests of Karabük, and even traveled to a completely different city solely to film a single, freezing river sequence. It wasn't always a flawless experience—sometimes it was an absolute battle against the tech—but here is how the ecosystem performed for the footage you see in this video: * **The Drone & Intelligent Tracking:** The DJI Flip drone and its intelligent tracking system were my absolute go-to for capturing behind-the-scenes footage and those iconic, wide tracking shots you see on the Steam page. Being completely alone, it was the only way I could professionally and effectively capture my grueling progression through the deep woods. It’s an amazing system, but not without its terrifying quirks: when I had it hovering very close to the water for the river scenes, the downward sensors got confused by the reflection, and the drone just started drifting on its own. * **DJI RS 4 Mini Combo:** For the tight, character-following sequences, balancing my Sony FX30 on this gimbal and using the Intelligent Tracking Module was a lifesaver. Using hand gestures to start/stop tracking meant I didn't have to break character. However, it definitely had a mind of its own. Right in the middle of a serious, emotional take, the gimbal would occasionally just start shaking its head or completely tilt the FX30 straight down to point at the ground. * **DJI Osmo Action 4:** I put this thing through hell. The river submersion shots, the raw FPV falls, and physically tossing a bag off a cliff—all shot on the Action 4. After all that abuse, it survived the wilderness with just a few minor scratches. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the cinematography, or hear if you guys have had similar tracking quirks when pushing your gear to its limits!

dji “DJI faces a U.S. block of all new products December 23”

DJI is facing a potential U.S. ban on all new products, effective December 23, 2025, if a mandated federal security audit is not completed by then. As of late November 2025, no U.S. government agency has initiated the required audit, making an automatic ban highly likely. Current Situation and the December 23 Deadline Legislative Trigger: Section 1709 of the FY2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), signed in December 2024, requires an "appropriate national security agency" to complete a security determination of DJI's products within one year. Automatic Ban Mechanism: If this audit and determination are not completed by December 23, 2025, DJI will be automatically added to the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC's "Covered List"). Impact of the Covered List: Inclusion on the Covered List would effectively ban new DJI products and models from receiving the necessary FCC equipment authorizations to be imported and sold in the U.S.. This is expected to impact all DJI products that use communications equipment, including drones and camera equipment. pixel_phones “2 years of joy, would be back soon!”

TLDR; An appreciation cum review post for a Pixel 7, I had for the last 2 years. **Brief background:** I owned a Pixel 7 since late 2023. I got the battery replaced (free), in July 2025. Mid August 2025, the phone died, Google reported a dead motherboard and quoted 40 grand (INR). All of this happened, amidst the regular heating issues and poor network reception. In September, I was doomscrolling the internet and found that quite a few Pixel 7s had the same issue (potential shorting in the motherboard). Hence took it to a local repair shop, he swapped the Power IC for a meagre 4 grand and suggested me to pawn the device off during the upcoming sale (India). Parallely, my Pixel Buds A also stopped working. Google did provide me a replacement with the upgraded Pixel Buds Pro. After these two incidents happening within less than 2 years of purchase, I am done with Google (for now). **Why did I get the Pixel 7?** TLDR; Camera and stock android experience. **Camera:** I was planning to get the DJI Action 2, but I realized I was more into photography and an action camera won't serve the purpose. So there were two options, either get a mirrorless camera (steep learning curve) or get a flagship smartphone with decent camera specs. I went with the later. I was confused between Samsung and Google, but to my naive eye, Google seemed more appropriate (flatter colors imo). So went ahead with the Pixel 7. And it performed really well, look at the images for reference. Getting long exposure shots, panning shots was a breeze with the Pixel. It couldn't have been any better. **Stock android:** Having used Android One devices like Mi A1 and Mi A2, I appreciate the Pixel software experience. Pixel Drops and features like Circle to Search, unlimited transcription that too in sync with my laptop, made my life a tad bit easier. This is the second reason, why I would probably come back to Pixel devices again. Apart from these two aspects, I really liked the form factor, haptics and bluetooth audio quality on my Pixel 7. So after these hassles: 1. **Would I be purchasing a Pixel again in the future?** Yes, but not immediately. 2. **What would I do differently?** Get extended warranty (third party in India). 3. **What device did I switch to?** Nothing Phone 3a, got the extended warranty. Pretty paranoid, atm. 4. **Would you recommend the current Pixel lineup?** If you WFH, go out rarely, don't take many calls via your smartphone, click pictures but don't shoot a lot of videos and want a device with stock android then go ahead and buy the Pixel, but with the extended warranty. 5. **What should improve?** The after sales service in India, and they should stop shipping buggy updates which causes most of the Pixel devices to die eventually.

dji “DJI Mini 3 v/s 4K Mini? Here are my thoughts after using it for 6 months...”

Being a roof inspector, I was trying both of these drones- [DJI Mini 3](https://homeinspectiontrends.com/best-drones-for-roof-inspection/#:~:text=DJI%20Mini%203%20Drone%20with%204K%20Camera) and [DJI 4K Mini](https://homeinspectiontrends.com/best-drones-for-roof-inspection/#:~:text=DJI%20Mini%204K%20Drone%20with%20UHD%20Camera). Mini 3 costs double than the 4K Mini, and this is what I was trying to experiment. honestly both are decent but Mini 3 is kinda the better all rounder. u get like 38min flight time (even more if u buy the plus battery) and the camera can do true vertical shots + hdr stuff. Feels a bit more “future proof” if ur recording content for inspections. Mini 4k is cheaper tho and still shoots 4k with a 3-axis gimbal so for casual flying or just messing around its totally fine. Only real downside is battery life is shorter and no fancy vertical/hdr. So if u got the cash i’d grab the [DJI Mini 3](https://homeinspectiontrends.com/best-drones-for-roof-inspection/#:~:text=DJI%20Mini%203%20Drone%20with%204K%20Camera). insta360 “Insta360 X5 vs. Osmo 360: The one I kept after the honeymoon phase...”

I've been a Pocket 3 user for a while and overall a DJI fan. Once I started looking into 360 cameras though, it was tougher to make up my mind. I ended up buying both the Insta360 X5 and the DJI osmo 360 with the idea of living with them for a bit and eventually giving one of them away to my brother. Both were fun in the initial "honeymoon phase". I’d just shoot everything and figure it out later. But after a few weeks, once the novelty wore off, some stuff I didn’t initially consider started to matter more. Lens protection was a bigger deal than I expected. Since the osmo 360 doesn’t have replaceable lenses, that became a point of concern. I bought lens covers for it. That gave me peace of mind as far as protection, but definitely affected the image quality. This is a major oversight by DJI. Since replaceable lenses became a thing, it's a must-have on 360 cams. What pushed me toward keeping the X5 in the end was the overall experience. Shooting 360 means dealing with a lot of clips, and with the X5, reviewing, reframing, and exporting is easier and less annoying. I had assumed DJI would be stronger on software, but Insta360’s experience with 360 really shows. Desktop editing on both still isn’t great though. The Osmo 360 isn't a bad camera, but when putting them head to head, I kept reaching for the X5 more often. I appreciated being able to focus on what I was recording instead of worrying about breaking the lenses or bad image quality from lens guards or how to deal with the footage afterward. I'm curious to know what the community thinks. Have you compared these two models, and what ended up mattering more to you?
