iems “I gave dad my favorite iem. Now I need a replacement.”

I gave my dad my favorite IEM. Now I need a replacement ($50 budget) A few days ago, I gave my dad my Moondrop Chu 2 because he needed something decent to listen to music with, and honestly… I couldn’t say no. For context, he had been using those super cheap $2 Bavin earphones for the longest time. That was basically his daily driver for years. One day, I let him try my Chu 2 and gave him access to my Apple Music. No joke, he literally went into his room, closed the door, and stayed there just listening to music. 😂 I think it was one of those moments where he realized, “Wait… music can sound like this?” The funny/sad part is that the Chu 2 was actually my favorite IEM and my baseline for a while. I don’t really have a big audio budget, so I mostly stick to cheaper sets and buy slowly. The Chu 2 was the one I always compared everything to. For my ears, it was almost perfect: \- Good bass (present but not overwhelming) \- Good separation \- Nice clarity \- Not fatiguing Now I’m looking for a replacement around $50 or below to become my new “baseline” IEM. I mostly listen to OPM, acoustic, female vocals, pop, and some bass-heavy tracks, but I still want something balanced enough to be an all-rounder. If you loved the Chu 2 and upgraded from it, what would you recommend? So far I’ve been considering things like the Kefine Klean, but I’m open to suggestions.

iems “Finally got the aful explorer”

This is my second and probably final pair of iems. Last year, a friend of mine got me a chu 2 and the sound of that just couldnt really compare to a lot of the bluetooth earbuds i’ve tried. I later found out abt this subreddit and looked at the purchasing rankings and just wanted to get a pair of explorers. I havent had the chance to give it a full review yet as I literally just got it but this is the setup so far: Eartips: Azlya sednaearfit max asmr Iem: Aful Explorer Cable: Nicehck S77 Case: Just from the explorer box I got it second hand at e-earphone osaka nipponbashi(great service and insane selection of everything audio). I wasn’t planning on getting a cable, but since it was second hand, the original cable had a 4.4mm headphone jack and was also broken so i also picked up the cable. Total price of 11,393 yen or around 70 usd. Note that this doesn’t include the eartips as I already had those beforehand.

iems “My first iems”

I just recently got these guys about 2 days back and I’ve really enjoyed them so far ( not with rock however ) and I’m no audio expert but ever since I’ve gotten these I’ve been getting into it. But I feel like these are a bit too “shrill” and just unpalatable when listening to rock songs, where there’s no real warmth. Maybe it has to do with my setup and eq configurations ? But with hip-hop, pop, jazz and other genres excluding metal, heavy metal and rock it performs really really well. In terms of bass it doesn’t sound bloated or blending in with the mids which I can’t help but appreciate, and holy…the vocal presence with these is astounding comparative to my Bluetooth earbuds and headphones, and it was just so shocking, the way I could hear new tiny little sounds of songs I was so familiar with still shocks me. I do however find these fun to listen with and I plan to become a permanent IEM user. I also do plan on getting the aria 2’s irrespective of the “paint chipping” issue. But I am wondering whether keeping my chu 2’s out in the open in a humid environment and sometimes a very cold environment ( as I am always under an air conditioner most of the time ) would negatively effect it in the long run.

If you already love the Chu 2, I would just get them again. IEMs can be so variable that spending more money might not get you something you like better

iems “Bought some new IEMs for my collection”

I got into this hobby around 2 years ago because I wanted to a portable HiFi listening experience after watching Dankpods on YT. I was in the rock and roll rabbit hole at the time thanks to Bocchi The Rock! I was definitely amazed at first (coming from garbage "gaming" headphones and Bluetooth earbuds) but over time, I started to refine my preferences after trying out different budget IEMs. I didn't know how to use EQ so yeah, I wasted over 200 bucks on entry level stuff before settling on the Truthear x Crinacle Zero Red as my daily driver with the Tangzu Wan'er S.G. and Moondrop Space Travel as my backup. My current portable "lossless" setup is the AFUL Explorer (4.4mm) with the Moondrop MC2 cable (3.5mm + mic), the CVJ Vivian (anime edition 3.5mm + mic) for the flex and the Realtek ALC5686 single DAC that I got 2 years ago. Is this good for now or should I upgrade a bit more like buying a new DAC or getting some ear tips? Both IEMs work fine with my DAC for now after I tested my FLAC files on USB Exclusive Mode with HiBy. How good is UAPP and is it worth the money? The only reason I got the 4.4mm balanced version for my AFUL Explorer is because I thought I'd need a better DAC like the FiiO Snowsky Retro Nano or the Quidelix 5k. In hindsight, maybe I could've gotten the Moondrop FreeDSP Pro cable instead. The Moondrop MC2 cable and the CVJ Vivian's mic works fine with my DAC but I don't think they work at all if I'm on USB Exclusive Mode so I have to unplug and replug the DAC back just for that. They don't work on the 3.5mm headphone jack either since I can't fully insert them because of the phone case so that's another other quirk if you wanna use IEMs with a mic on Android. In my experience, the AFUL Explorer sounds slightly more refined when I'm playing on USB Exclusive Mode on busy tracks like jpop and anime OST but otherwise, there's little to no difference on my CVJ Vivian since it's a bit congested thanks to the single DD driver (but has better separation compared to any of the old budget chifi IEMs). The Vivian sounds balanced to me with a slight sub bass boost which is more but not as refined as the Explorer but I like both tunings compared to what I was used to in my collection. I hated the muddy bass of my QKZ x HBB and I despised the KZ ZSN Pro X. The CVJ Vivian isn't as good or "resolving" as the Truthear Red (especially in the sub bass) but for its price, it beats any of the old gen budget IEMs. It wasn't as warm as the Tangzu Wan'er but it definitely wasn't grainy as that either. To me, the CVJ Vivian is basically a step up to my old 7Hz Salnotes Zero while the AFUL Explorer was meant to be a step up to my Tangzu Wan'er and Truthear Red, which was too dark for my taste. I'm very satisfied with both IEMs but I'm not sure if I should upgrade to an even better IEM eventually or switch to headphones. What do you guys think?
