Update to my last post, first true “audiophile” setup, had the Edifier M60 + T5s combo, decided to jump on the sale for the KEF Q1 Metas and paired it with the $50 Fosi V1.0G, totally worth it! Never going back. Will look into a sub later down the line, but this already blows anything I had before clear out of the water. Now I just need a bigger desk lol

I am a bit of an audiophile looking for desktop computer speakers, but I have two issues currently: space and money. I am a music composition student and I write and produce music, so eventually, I want to get some Yamaha HS5s. For now, I mix with a pair of Sennheiser HD6xx headphones and the GoodHertz CanOpener plugin, and it works great, so I'm not looking for studio monitors just yet. At the moment, I just need some solid desktop speakers for day-to-day use. Gaming, mostly, but also watching media, listening to music, doing school work, etc. I don't have much space on my desk, and I def don't have as much disposable incoming since becoming a student, but I want good quality audio. I was originally looking at iLoud Micro Monitors, but sometime in the last 2-3 weeks, their price went up by nearly $100 (from $200 to $300). $200 was already going to be a splurge for me, but after price jump, I can't really justify it. In looking for replacements, I've heard about Adam D3Vs for $350, Kanto Oras for $300, etc. Edifier M60s could be a good fit, but I've heard the MR3s and MR4s sound better and are cheaper. The Edifier MR3s and MR4s might do the trick (on the larger size of what I can accomodate), but I've heard they're super flat sounding, which is great for mixing, but I want something that sounds more "fun" for gaming, movies, and music. On the flipside, there's Creative Pebbles for like $20. But they sound like $20 speakers. Another challenge is routing. I have a dual PC setup with a desktop and laptop, and I have a KVM switch that I use to share a keyboard and mouse between them. IDEALLY, the speakers could be connected via USB so I could add them to the KVM switch and use the speakers with whichever device is active. I could figure out a workaround if it. didn't have that, though. Are there any good options around maybe the $100 mark that sound good and have a gfood value? Or even $150? I don't really see reviewers talking about compact speakers at that pricepoint, and a lot of the ones that used to be around there have seemingly gone up. Do you just need to spend more for good audio in smaller speakers?

That is one of the reasons why I don't venture into high-end earbuds. They are expensive yet not designed to be durable nor repairable. Even if you take good care, the battery eventually wears out and replacing it is a hassle. The only advantage I see in earbuds is convenience. If I want higher quality sound I go after IEMs and portable DAC/bluetooth receiver combo. There are cheaper earbuds out there that offer decent enough sound, some ANC, and even have long battery life. I like Edifier's offerings. Anker has good options too.

The idea of a "Super Flat Sounding" speaker being a negative drives me crazy. You can EQ them to sound like whatever the hell you want. Gaming music etc. Just realize that you are going to be limited based on the size of the woofer etc. Bass boost them to your hearts content, and have a "Beats by Dre" preload if you want. Edifier is the king of speakers under 300 bucks, unless you go used. Mr3, Mr4, Mr5, M60 etc. Hell even the 1280s etc if your budget is really limited. I absolutely love the sound of the Mr5's with a small sub. Adams, Kantos, Fluance, etc all are bloody good, arguably better. But for your budget Edifier is prob your best option.

Hey! I'm looking for a speaker upgrade around 100€ or slightly more if the added value is there. I just do PC things like Youtube, Music, gaming and sometimes movies. The most important requirement is I want them to sound fun! I always turn the bass up when I listen to music, but for videos I don't want too bassy as it's just annoying. I actually like my Logtech Z323s, they sound good to me but I feel like I don't know what I'm missing out on and would love to find out. I see people recommending Edifier, like the R1280TS, or the R1700DBS. But then I look for opinions and there's always a reddit post where someone is dissappointed with them and everyone's saying "Yea that's Edifier for you". Also they don't have a dedicated subs which even my Logitech speakers have, could the really keep up on bass? I found some Logitech Z623 for 60€ as well, are those any good? Really don't know what to get, please help :( Update 1: I bought the Edifier R1700DBs based on the price and positive reviews. I'm listening to them for first time right now and while, sure, they sound "clearer", they're not NEARLY as "fun" as my old Logitech z323 were, so I'm honestly a little disappointed. I was expecting a lot more. They sound a bit "hissy" on the highs which I don't like, the treble adjust does basically nothing according to my ears. Even the budget soundbar on our TV I find is more enjoyable. Anyway, the answer to whether they can keep on bass is "No, not at all". I'm gonna give them a couple more days and probably rig the z323's sub up to them so they have a bit more punch. But so far my conclusion is: Expensive speakers != fun speakers Update 2: I am returning them and keeping the Logitech z323. I prefer their sound. I tried connected the Logitech sub to the Edifiers but it wasn't great either.
