RE800

Hifiman has an open box re600 for ~$50 right now (no accessories) and the re400 for $15. I own both and find the re600 to be a substantial upgrade. Never personally heard the re800 but I read that it's terrible... Impression seems to be they overdid it with the bass and it sounds bloated.

Hi everyone, I’m trying to make a final decision on a pair of bullet-style IEMs for my iPod Video 5.5, and I would really appreciate some opinions from people who have heard these. I'm choosing between: **- HiFiMAN RE400** **- HiFiMAN RE800 Silver** They would be used only from the iPod’s (5.5 gen.) 3.5 mm jack, with Rockbox and FLAC songs. My music is mostly 90s rock, older hits, vocals, guitars, and slower/more emotional songs. I’m not looking for a studio/monitoring sound or something overly analytical. I just want something that sounds clear, natural, and enjoyable, without feeling muddy, dark, cramped, or “old” in quality. The things I care about most are: **1. Sound** This matters the most to me. I’m not a professional audiophile and I probably won’t notice very small technical differences in sound. I’m mainly looking for something normal, natural, and enjoyable, so I can just listen to music without it sounding bad, muddy, harsh, or low-quality. **2. Comfort** I know this is very personal, but I’d like to avoid anything that many people find uncomfortable. I’m fine with changing tips if needed, but I want something I can use for longer listening, walking, and relaxing at home. **3. Isolation** I currently use regular Apple EarPods, so almost anything with proper eartips will probably isolate better. Still, better isolation would be useful for walking outside, using them in the car, and listening at home when there is TV noise in the background. I don’t really care about looks, color, cable length, age of the model, or price. I mainly want the best choice for sound, comfort, and isolation. I also have the **Final E4000** as a possible **third option** if you think it would actually suit me better than both HiFiMAN models. Happy to help! I just realized though that the RE800 and the RE800 "Silver" edition are different IEMs, my apologies for misunderstanding. It looks like the Silver version has an improved tonality versus the original, though still not great in my opinion. Silver edition has a slightly more balanced sound signature than the original with a hefty bass boost on top of the boosted mid treble. It is aggressively "V-shaped." Judging by the one graph I could find of this IEM, I think it'll be an odd mix of shouty and overpoweringly bassy at the same time. If you want clean vocals and don't want a harsh sound this is probably not the IEM for you. I still think the RE400 is your safest bet.

I’m not an audiophile or studio user, so I’m not looking for anything extremely analytical or special. I just want clean, good-quality sound that does not feel muddy, old, or closed-in. I want music to sound natural, clear, and enjoyable, especially for rock, vocals, guitars, and more slow/emotional songs. **Comfort** I know this depends a lot on each person’s ears, but I would prefer something that is not widely hated for comfort. Mixed or good opinions are fine. I’m willing to try different tips if needed. I would like something comfortable enough for longer listening, walking, and relaxing at home. **Noise isolation** This is also important. Right now I only have standard Apple EarPods, which are comfortable enough, but they fall out easily and don't really isolate outside noise. I want something that blocks more noise - basically any with those eartips because the original apple ones dont have anything.. Things that are **not very important** to me: * Color * Cable length * Whether it is new or older * Looks **Price** It's not the main deciding factor, but I still care if something is badly overpriced for what it offers. I would really appreciate it if anyone could share their experience with any of these 7 models. Which ones stood out to you the most, and If there are any you would avoid because of comfort, sound, isolation, or poor value? And also, are any of these overpriced today compared to how they perform?
