Maestro SE Custom IEM

Ok so physical bass feel... you will NOT get anywhere near the same feeling in an IEM as you'd get with speakers and a sub, not even close! Reviews of the Martilo for example talk about feeling intense sub bass in their chest etc... nah. Not at all. I bought one and was like "is this it?!" 10mm IEM drivers just don't move enough air. Even headphones will *feel* physically much more bassy. I have an Edition XS which is not a bass headphone in any way, and it can still move more air so I feel the physics more. ...So... IEM bass is a different kind of bass. It's fun and impactful but in a different way. Nothing in your chest, but your ear drums can be directly assaulted and still give you bass face. It can be intense in a different way. The thing you're paying extra money in a bass IEM is NOT **more** bass. It's **quality** bass. The refinement so it can still hit hard but not ruin the mids and highs. A $30 Basshead set will have the same amount of bass, but likely dominate the other frequencies. Most sub-bass everrrr = Fatfreq Scarlet Mini. I've not heard it but that's the famous most extreme Basshead IEM. My pick= TSMR Armor. Much better than the Martilo imo.

Yeah, the hunt for a ultimate bass feeling is chasing many bass heads including myself :-) While I think the Rosefinch is a good one, its quality is not there like with other mentioned sets like the Dunu x Koto Ito and the Punch series. You can try it but I think the sheer quantity of the Rosefinch was not satisfying for me. The bass needs to have a good texture and needs control imo. The Castor Pro (I have it as well) is fine for a while but if you want to have bass quantity and quality you have to spend more unfortunately in my opinion. For great subbass rumble with the correct ear tips and a correct fit (absolutely crucial for best bass impact) I can recommend the Punch Audio Martilo which you can find used already sometimes around USD 200 (just saw it for EUR180 used on Head-fi) . Dunu x Koto Ito is a great hard hitting bass set as well but doesn't reach Martilo's rumble. Crinacle x 7Hz Diablo is a really good option too. FatFreq Deuce has a huge bass shelf as well and could be a good candidate for you. I think all of these are good options and a matter of taste what you prefer like treble, mid bass, details etc. Middle ground is Koto Ito for me as it is very much compatible with other music genres too and not purely a bass head IEM. The ultimate uber bass machine is the FatFreq Scarlet Mini but it literally hurts my ears after a while and is priced around 500 EUR or so, not worth getting it.

Yeah, I get it. 300 Euros is an awful amount of money when you start. I remember being hesitant to spent even a hundred bucks on an IEM. Well, buying used gear is mostly ok, there are sometimes unpleasant surprises but hey, there is disinfection liquid. ;-) In your case you would really save a lot when going to the used market. There are differences and not even subtle between Dunu Koto Ito and Martilo. They still have two different sound signatures in a way. Martilo will have deeper subbass rumble (around 4dB more which is quite significant) while still having relatively clean mids and nicely extended treble. Koto Ito is subbass wise not on the same level. How far are they away? Maybe 10%? Maybe more. If they would be almost same I would clearly say that but these arguments I find are not very helpful (as you cant quantify the difference) but of course fair to ask. Both are fine sets though. Martilo sounds overall slightly "cleaner" I guess, Koto Ito has thicker lower mids which I feel does give it a more relaxed presentation. If I were you and subbass is so important, I would go for the Martilo (used 😉  which is the price of the Koto Ito). If you like a strong midpass punch as well I would go for the Punch Audio Portazo which has slightly thicker mids , good contrasty treble and almost Martilo subbass level and better mid bass punch - for much less money! If subbass rumble wouldn’t be first prio but midbass punch, the Koto Ito has plenty. Vocals on Portazo are more forward than on Koto Ito. Deuce has good subbass  but less mid bass punch.

Since you want sub-bass I'd recommend the Punch Audio Martilo, easily the best in your approx budget. You can also go for the FatFreq Deuce which is a little cheaper, but not as good IMO in the rest of the frequency, but it does rumble well. The key thing is that "basshead' sets don't necessarily delineate if they are sub-bass or bass focused. It's helpful to look at the FR graphs. If you want good sub-bass and a decent but not obnoxious bass lift, the TSMR Armor is excellent. For example, the 7hz x Crinacle Diablo is considered a basshead IEM but it's all in the bass, not necessarily the sub-bass making it a bit of a mud monster depending on the genre/track.
