negativeiems “Shallow Insertion Revelations after Years of frustration”Alright. This is going to be a post about my experiences with IEMs. So several years ago, I went down the IEM rabbithole. I bought a pair of KZ, then Moondrop, then Dunu. I enjoyed listening to them all and they were incredibly convenient for portable higher fidelity sound. But I had several problems: 1: The IEMs would slide out after 30 seconds. I'd constantly be pushing them back in 2: They never sealed properly. No matter the size 3: They hurt like hell. After a few songs, I was done. My ears were angry and irritated I spent about $300 total on IEMs. But probably a lot more money on tips. I was frustrated. I tried foam tips. Silicone. Rubber. Double flange. Triple flange. Nothing seemed to work for my ears. It all hurt, No matter the size. I put my IEMs in a box and forgot about them for years and went back to my darling over ear headphones. Last week I discovered something akin to a revelation. I tired putting on the Large tips that came with my Dunu Titan S and I just put them on. I didn't push them in deep, simply a light nudge in. I just let them sit around the rim of the entrance of my ears. It was near magical. They sealed perfectly. No matter how much I moved my jaw or yawned or bumped them, they just stayed sealed. Music sounded amazing. And most importantly, My ears did not hurt after listening to a whole album. I was comfortable. I originally thought my ears were defective and weren't built for IEMs. It turns out they were just not built for deep insertion. Plus it helped solve the pesky wax issue. So much of what I read online said common wisdom is to push them in deep. They're IN EAR monitors after all. It's how you get the best detail. The casing of your IEM needs to sit flush, I read. But it turns out, I didn't need to. It definitely revived my interest in IEMs. I love listening to CDs on the go. IEMs brought back convenience with good sound. Yeah, they stick out a little further now, but they still stay put. I think soon I'll try the Simgot EA1000. Now that I solved the comfort and fit issues I had for years, I think I'm ready to try something more impressive. Hopefully my experiences help others with similarly weird ears and who also gave up on IEMs like I did. I am back.

neutraliems “Truthear Hexa or Pure?”The Pure is a flat-out better IEM. Neither is perfectly neutral but if you want to achieve neutral with EQ, it's easier to do with the Pure because the treble quality on the Hexa is not good, whereas the Pure really only needs one filter and it's in the "easy to EQ" region. If you want any bass, avoid the Hexa because it has very limp bass that's a bit below neutral and not very good quality. The Pure is further away from flat neutral, but it's within the bounds of warm-neutral and probably a lot closer to what most people would actually want anyway. Arguably the Pure has a bit too much upper midbass and it can bleed into the mids slightly, but it generally sounds quite good and is certainly an upgrade from the Wan'er, especially when it comes to the *quality* of the bass and upper treble. Another thing to watch with both the Hexa and the Pure is comfort. The Pure is going to be safer for most people, because the nozzle on the Hexa is pretty big. They did improve that quite a lot with the Pure, although it's still not as comfortable as something like the Wan'er. A more direct upgrade from the Wan'er for a bit less money is the Dunu Titan S, which I would also recommend over the Hexa. It's warm-neutral with a bit of vocal forwardness. So it's closer to the Wan'er style of tuning, but not quite as warm. It has much better clarity, resolution and build quality (anodised metal shells). The Pure has better treble than the Titan S and punchier bass, but if you don't want to EQ and are worried about that slight bass bleed, the Titan S is a safer option. It's also a lot safer comfort-wise for most people.

neutraliems “I understand it now”The problem with using narrow bore is Hexa's nozzle. I can't prove this, but the small hole that's not central and is off to the side is what I think the bass hole, and if you cover it up the bass is too anemic. However, using Divinus Velvet wide bore or Tangzu Tang Sancai wide bore eliminates this problem because that tip type essentially just wraps around the nozzle and doesn't obstruct any of the holes, in fact it exposes them completely. This lets the bass punch a lot harder, and the bass is the main complaint people have about the Hexa. It legit feels like you added 2dB LSQ up to 200Hz. Like it's cable is shit, and the resin build can be broken easily... And tbh it's really overhyped, just because it comes with some good tips and accessories and a good box w theme doesn't make the Iems good enough... I would suggest Dunu Titan X

neutraliems “I Got My Endgame - Campfire Audio Andromeda 10”Zephyr - 1BA 1 DD I wanted my first IEM to be neutral bright, so it was a good fit. Pretty good instrument separation, good imaging. Some people say the soundstage isn’t that wide, while I agree, it’s not narrow either. Can’t go wrong for $159. Build is pretty solid, it doesn’t scream expensive, but it doesn’t look cheap either. I normally use these with the S&S eartips to make the sound a little more intense, Baroque Stage when I want more bass. Titan S2 - 1 DD Bassy pair, but not bass heavy. The soundstage is definitely narrower than the Zephyr. Good for EDM and other bass focused genres. The build itself is pretty astounding. The heft of the metal build adds a feel of high quality. I like how they feel cold to the touch when I put them on. The accessories that come with this set is just wild. I like using the S&S tips on these as it makes the sound a lot more intense. When I switch to the Baroque Stage tips, they just get more bass but smoother. EDX Pro - 1 DD I pretty much use these when I’m bored. I make sure I rotate through my headphones and IEMs and don’t forget about these. They’re fine, definitely not very detailed but good amount of bass. Narrow soundstage, separation is like 3/10. The shape is weird as it doesn’t go in my ears if I use my regular tips, they have to be longer or really big. I’d use this with my GameBoy. Andromeda 10 - 10 BA Still new so I still need to experiment. But overall very detailed without being aggressively detailed. Bass is detailed and textured, sparkly highs. Imaging is insanely good, adds to that “holographic” effect. The nozzle is short so the tips need to be a size larger. Will update.
