Something to note is that Skullcandy crusher have skull crushing bass compared to most audiophile-grade headphones. Whatever people recommend, be sure to demo them first before purchasing to save yourself the hassle. What people prefer might not be your cup of tea

I am an avid music listener and musician, and my Skullcandy Crusher ANCs, after just shy of 5 years it seems like they finally gave out. I think they sounded really good, but they're also the nicest headphones I've ever owned so I realize that they're probably nothing compared to the quality of some real nice audiophile headphones, so I decided I'm willing to spend a decent amount on some new ones for a more immersive listening experience. What are the objectively best sounding headphones for less than 500 dollars? I don't care about wireless, I'm just looking for some I can use daily at home. And of course its gonna suck not being able to listen to music in good quality (we all know phone speakers are shit), so I'm trying to buy some new ones asap...

headphoneadvice “New bass-boosting headphones after 5 years”

My pair of skullcandy crusher evos has had both earpads fall off, and I’ve hot glued them for the meantime. I was considering getting new evos, but they are constantly looked down upon when asking for advice. I have an average budget of $300, but I don’t mind someone sharing something more expensive if they also have a budget-friendly option in mind, since someday I would like a more expensive pair. I dabble in music making and mixing, so input from people who work with music mixing would be helpful. This will also be my first pair that I prioritize using at home where I work on music, since I found a good pair of cheap headphones I can take anywhere without the fear of losing or damaging it. No need to worry about looks or practicality in its design, since it wont be leaving my room. Please help! 🙏

Just had a thought, if you REALLY love bass, you could probably find a pair of Skullcandy Crusher Evos on eBay for the right price. I don't think they have a great soundstage, but they'd certainly be somewhat immersive.

headphoneadvice “Help choosing the best over-ear headphones for a 15-year-old.”

I'm sure there are a lot of great options mentioned here but there is one I spotted that is an objectively BAD headphone to give to anyone, let alone a teenager. Giving even a relatively mature 15-year-old (or a bass head of any age for that matter) Skullcandy Crushers seems like a recipe for hearing loss to me. That much direct vibration to the skull just HAS to be more damaging to the little hairs in our ears that convert air movement into perceived sound than typical headphones at a reasonable volume. Typical headphones have to vibrate air at these hairs to damage them. The Skullcandys directly rattle your entire skull with an absurd amount of force. I don't have much to back this up other than a hunch, my experience of temporary hearing loss after demoing those headphones for an hour at what felt like a reasonable listening level, an NIH article finding that 6 hours of exposure at 90dB with a 63hz signal to Chinchillas caused significant changes in hearing across all frequencies. The Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 as reviewed by "The Greater Song" shows a massive frequency response spike right around 63 Hz, at +18db which is insane and irresponsible on the part of Skullcandy. If you're an adult and want to buy these for yourself knowing that they are likely the unhealthiest headphones ever made, sure. I just wouldn't gift them to a teenager. I might be wrong, but bone conducting transducers are not that well studied yet and I'm not gambling with my two ears on unnecessarily loud bass.
