HE-400i

Hi, I'm finally looking to upgrade my headphones, I have a pair of HiFiman HE400i I purchased in 2015, they've served me well but looking for an upgrade and to try something different. Could go up to $1000 USD, $500-$700 range would be great. I would be running these from my PC, I have a Schitt Magni 2 amp from around 2017 or so, and a Schitt Modi 5 DAC. Main use is listening to music but also do some gaming. Don't plan on using these outside my home and noise isn't a concern. I am slightly sensitive to high treble, generally appreciate a balanced sound where I can pick up as much detail as possible. Listen to all types of music but favorites are prog rock/prog metal, punk, Indie rock and some electronic stuff. Outside of some airpods and other generic in ears, my current headphones are all I've known for a decade, and have gotten a bit stale. Looking for something with a bit more oomph in some sense- better clarity, bigger soundstage, etc. that will breathe some new life into my listening experience. Seen lots of recommendations for the HiFiMan Aryas, am hesitant just because I don't' want something too similar to my current cans, so trying to better understand the qualities of the different headphones in this price range that I can run on my setup. Under $400 buying in the US (I'll be seeing how the SCOTUS Tariff ruling plays out) Various sources but mostly running through my Schitt Stack, Modi 3 -> Loki -> Magni 2 Home listening, no worries about disturbing others. I do go back and forth on open vs closed backs since I already have an open-back pair. See below. Tonally I would like something that is more fun sounding without going overboard or sacrificing too much detail. I'm not a "bass-head" I like a pretty broad range of music, anything from Blue\\New Grass, Frank Zappa, Jazz, Classic Rock, prog, and Pop. I do appreciate well recorded music. If I could put my Wharfedale Linton 85s in a headphone that would be about perfect. I love that they sound full at lower volumes but they do not do Rock music very well IMHO. The best headphones I have now are the HiFi-Man HE400i, they are fine but lack a bit of sparkle to me. The Blessing 2 IEMs, I love the detail and balance but I would not call them "fun" and are uncomfortable after a while. I do also enjoy my Koss Porta-Pros but they are what they are. I have tried the Sennheiser 6?? a long while ago and they really didn't do anything for me. I think I actually went with the ATH-50x at the time because I use them more for playing guitar at the time anyway. I am over 50 and don't think I have lost too much high frequency I know there is some loss. Thanks in advanced.

Age old questions looking for some direction. Current situation: Maono AN2 Scarlett Solo Hifiman HE400i/Audio Technica MSR7 Question: I am planning on Hifiman 1000SE next week (if you can recommend something newer and better around $1600 please do) My big question is Amp, Dac, Pre-amp? Currently I would like to grab a tube amp I’d like to stick under $300 for it. But currently looking at the Lyr+ / Valhalla 3 but Hear they are not great for Low impedance.. any good input would help Additional I have been thinking about the Topping A70Pro

Hi, I'm new to the headphones world and I'm planning to buy one, I've done some research and my options now are: \-Superlux hd660 pro, 32ohms, closed back for $75. \-Hifiman he400 se(non stealth), 25ohms, open back and requires a mini dac for $90. I'm leaning towards the superlux because they're cheaper and closed back since I don't have that much privacy but I really want to try the hifiman and the open back experience, also the cables are detachable on the hifiman which is a huge plus, and I've seen an audiophile reviewer in my country glaze the shit out of the hifiman and that with mods it can be as good as a hifiman for $400! I'm using it for music, gaming and movies What do you guys think?

For a fun sounding pair of cans that still have good mid-range details and that are easy to drive you can find open box Sony MDR-MV1 for about $300. They don't quite have the sound stage as my HiFi Man 400i. They are super comfortable to wear as well.
