“For sound, Grado SR325x. Bend the metal headband and buy G pads and enjoy all day comfort with great detail and soundstage. For comfort, Focal Hadenys, though they’re a bit pricier.”

neutralheadphones “Need advice. Good open cans that isn't Grado?”I own a pair of Grado SR325x. They sound good, but they are shit. I am thinking of drilling holes and soldering in 3.5mm jacks, so I can use a normal cable rather than the really thick one that has predictably broken connection. I'm usually contempt with shitty speakers or headphones for music for the most part, but every now and then I like to hear music through something good. What do the lovely people here recommend for a really nice pair of open-back headphones? Ideally not more than £700 but is noticeably better than the Grados. Or is after that price-point, the increase in quality is really just minimal? Should I just stick with the Grados?

neutralheadphoneadvice “HiFiMAN Edition XS — Overhyped and honestly not worth the price”I think I more than dislike it.... I am 70% sure you are right about them being faulty. I ruled out the source. Refund, and next I will try with Grado SR325x.

positiveheadphoneadvice “Headphone recommendations under $500”The first thing I’d recommend is finding a shop or show where you can try a lot of headphones out. It’s really the best way to learn what you like. Second tip: buy used if you can. That said, for soundstage, I’m a fan of the Grado SR325X: open, light, and smooth. At the price, it might be the best there is. Good slam, super clear, but bass roll off. Very modifiable. The HiFiMan Ananda Nano is another fantastic option here. I have the Ananda Stealth, so can’t speak for the nano, but it’s supposed to be even better than that one, which I really enjoy. Best of luck. I’m sure you’ll get great recommendations from others, too!

positiveheadphoneadvice “Best headphones around $250-$400”For sound, Grado SR325x. Bend the metal headband and buy G pads and enjoy all day comfort with great detail and soundstage. For comfort, Focal Hadenys, though they’re a bit pricier.
