“Only have heard the Empys from those 3, but my LCD-X (2021) are exciting. The bass is mwah. The biggest surprise of the Emps for me was their bass response, like holy fuck. I did not expect that. All just bitperfect stream without any DSP/(P)EQ.”

“Audeze LCD-X's have quite recessed upper midrange which causes them to sound muffled. It is especially bad with the thicker memory foam earpads that Audeze used between 2016-2021.”

Especially when paired with Fiio K17, it feels like I’ve found the sweet spot towards the endgame. headphones “No more chasing the dragon”

Over the past few months I wanted to get a new gaming headphone, like a Logitech g pro X, or the Maxwell and well… I went down the rabbit hole pretty hard and demoed way more headphones than I ever planned to. HD490 Pro, HD800S, Arya Stealth, LCD-X, Arya Unveiled, HE1000 Stealth… probably forgetting a couple at this point. I wasn’t really chasing a specific sound, just something that felt *right* overall. Good technically, but still enjoyable to actually listen to for hours. Ended up landing on the HE1000se… this is the one. It’s got that super clean, resolving sound where you can pick everything apart, but it doesn’t come off sterile or boring. Imaging, separation, detail, all there. Bass is tight and clean, not muddy, but still present. Only thing I noticed at first was it leaned a *touch* on the lighter side. Threw in the Gremlin and that basically fixed it. Added just enough body and texture to make everything feel more natural without killing what makes the SE special. Whole setup (SE + DX5 II + Gremlin) ended up around $2300 after tax. Which… yeah, not cheap. I genuinely don’t know how much better it realistically gets without spending double, not to mention diminishing returns past this. The Susvara exists, and there’s always something more expensive. But this feels like that sweet spot where you’re getting insane performance without completely losing your mind financially. At least for a “brokie” like me. For the first time since starting this hobby, I’m not thinking about “what’s next” every 5 minutes. I’m just listening to the music. I’ll still keep an eye on new stuff and I’m sure I’ll get curious again at some point, but for now this feels like endgame. Audi(bro)phile arc complete (temporarily). Curious what everyone else is running. I know these headphones are a few years old now, anyone else land here and just stop upgrading for a bit?

headphones “Meze, Audeze & Austrian Audio comparison”

I got the chance to listen to some headphones at the local audio store, Audiokauppa. Some background This is in no way an in-depth expert review. I spent 30 minutes with these headphones. I’m just a guy who likes music and has owned a pair of Genelecs for 10 years. I buy gear if I like the way it sounds. The setup The music source was a MacBook Air with Qobuz. The DAC / amp was my trusty RME ADI DAC FS. I listened to some of my favourites including Opeth, Arch Enemy, Carpenter Brut and Paramore. Audeze LCD-3 I’ve owned these for two years. But I’ve never been quite happy with the sound. Endless fiddling with EQ settings and changing amps did not help. The sound feels restricted and rude. I don’t feel the music, I just hear it. That’s why I am looking for something new. Austrian Audio The Composer 1 minute was enough with these. The sound was thin and lifeless. I couldn’t find sense of space or instrument separation. Disclaimer: it might be because I used them with the RME’s 3,5mm IEM output. But that didn’t reach max level either, it was -20dB. Meze Empyeran These just sounded right from the first seconds. The sound feels accurate and exciting. I noticed my head had started to bob on its own several times. A clear winner for me! I can’t wait to hear all my favourites with these. I think I’ll start with some Dire Straits.

headphones “Amplifier for Audeze LCD-X?”

I just picked up the Audeze LCD-X a week ago. I'm trying to use them for mixing/mastering as I'm struggling with low-end in a room that I am unable to treat. I've tried EQing them with Realphones 2 with a variety of different profiles to get more authentic commercial lows for referencing purposes. I read the LCD-X have exceptional low-end with little-no distortion when EQ'd. Not gonna lie, so far I am very unimpressed by these headphones (unless its just that my amplification is the issue). Right now I am using an RME Babyface interface -> Fosi Audio SK01 amplifier -> LCD-X. I need to be able to temporarily push the headphones a bit and get some rumble (short higher volume checks) so I can hear/feel the lows that I am hearing in the car - but I'm finding that as I raise the volume, its like the bass is just disappearing. I'm ASSUMING its clipping the Fosi but I don't hear any distortion, just the bass disappearing and the harsher mids/treble pushing through loudly. If I go RME babyface direct to the LCD-X, I experience a similar issue but I can hear audible distortion in the lows once the volume gets higher. I'm thinking I need a headphone amp with some more headroom just so I can drive these cans for short bursts to hear things open up. If this sounds like an amplifier limitation, could somebody please recommend a better amplifier for this? Or is this just a limitation with the headphones reaching their limit once the volume gets higher? If its the headphones' limitation then I'm probably going to return them because I am simply not getting a similar representation with my reference tracks at any volume with any amount of EQ and I'm still unable to dial things in intelligibly.

headphones “Arctis Nova Elite - My thoughts so far”

Hey everyone, I've had them for a couple days and just need to share some thoughts for anyone curious or potentially wants to buy them. I'm currently testing them against the Fractal Scape and the Audeze Maxwell and I have so many thoughts and my own confusion that I figure I'd share some of them and get everyones opinions as well. **Comfort:** The pleather pads they come with are better than the Nova Pro's. They have a bigger opening and it's deeper in general. My issue, and this is my personal issue with all pleather, is that my ears just get so damn hot. That's why in the pic you will see the Wicked Cushion pads. With those pads on, these things are absolutely comfortable. I love the suspension strap on these things. I'm not sure what material they are using but it's so damn comfortable. **Sound:** So I own $2500 ZMF headphones, tons of IEMs, etc. I've been in this hobby for awhile. I think I have a fair idea of what good sound sounds like. I will say, I am impressed with the sound of these. These new drivers they have create this sense of intimacy but also give you quick transients with a bit of elevated treble which makes them give off a surround sound effect. They're pretty damn good. Where they fall short is that sometimes the treble can be peaky in certain aspects. I'm not the greatest at EQ'ing things myself, but I'm sure you can solve that pretty easily via EQ. I'm a basshead, so the bass is perfect for me. But I imagine people who don't like bass as much would want to EQ down the bass as it hits HARD stock. But it's clean, and separated from the mids. It's quite good. TBH, this headphone sort of reminds me of the airpods pro 3 where it's a slight V shape, but done well. I don't think the typical "neutral" audiophile will like these though. It just doesn't have a natural timbre so you have to be OK with that. But don't get me wrong, diminishing returns goes into play and the timbre isn't really that far off from genuinely good audiophile headphones. **Functionality:** These are pretty dope. The chat/game mix is awesome. Being able to connect to multiple bluetooth devices and hear all of them at the same time is pretty rad. I don't think there is anything out there that does this. The battery life is good. The connection is great. I can walk around my entire house and not lose connection. The **microphone** is B tier at best. It blows my mind that they created a $600 headphone and the microphone sounds average at best. **Conclusion + Comparison:** So this is where I'm kind of losing my mind. For $600, I'm trying to understand who would value this over the Fractal Scape (which is incredible btw) and the Audeze Maxwell. The Fractal Scape has similar sound quality, but even better in the treble in my opinion. The Fractal is also more comfy in my mind. I need to do a review on these one day because these headphones truly are spectacular and similar to the Elites in many ways. Then you have the Audeze Maxwell which have better sound quality than both. If the Maxwell weighed less, had better microphone and sidetone it would be endgame for almost everybody IMO. So this is where I just don't get it. The Elites aren't the **best** at anything outside of some very niche functionality things like simultaneous bluetooth. How many people need simultaneous bluetooth in reality? My thinking is that for someone that needs all the functionality (bluetooth, chatmix, good sound quality, average mic, etc) they might be happy. But the question still remains, is this a \*value\* buy for anyone?
