This. Hamilton Beach, Proctor-Silex, Krups, KitchenAid, Bella, Black and Decker(!) - any basic drip machine will do the trick. $20-50. Filters are cheap, cleaning/descaling is easy, They will last 5-10 years before you need to buy a replacement. Feature wise, you need to decide if you want auto-shutoff, or you want a "dumb" machine that just has an on/off switch, so it can keep warm for more than two hours, as long you're not forgetful.

moccamaster “Is upgrading to a Moccamaster actually worth it if I’m fine with my cheap drip machine?”

Just upgraded to a moccamaster and, yes, it is worth it for me. At the same time, I liked my Mr. Coffee as well and would have been fine with using it forever. However, once you experience something more refined, it is hard to go back. I waited for a sale and got mine at $230. I got a carafe model because I was tired of my Mr Coffee hot plate changing the taste of my coffee. I’ll never go back.

frugal “French press vs new coffee maker? Longevity, convenience, and overall cost.”

We used Bodum French Presses for years. After breaking the last glass one, we switched to Stainless Steel French presses. No broken glass, and Peet's Major Dickason's Blend ground every morning with Krups grinder. Boiling water via a Black & Decker water boiler. Zero taste difference and no broken glass disappointment.

In this sub a Bonavita that is on a Black Friday sale. Just kidding. I would probably go with a Black and Decker. That was the last no frills coffee maker I had and it lasted a good 8 years with everyday use. It was probably still working when I got a Keurig. My parents also use Mr. Coffee coffee makers and have been happy with them. They brew perfectly fine.
